“Jump Back” One of the all time classic lines, in an all time classic flick, was coined so elloquently by Kevin Bacon’s caracter, Ren McCormack, in Footloose.

On an impulse, I bought a recent DVD release of a trio of 80’s Gen-Xers movies. The other two films, that so delightfully made up the 3, were Flashdance & Pretty in Pink (though I think Sixteen Candles or The Breakfast club should have secured the #3 spot).

I loved them then, because it was all so real, and repressed, and angsty and possible. I love them now because they epitomise the entire decade. Big hair, leg warmers, 80’s slang and toe tapping tunes. Ah, the 80’s. Flashdance, along with Footloose and Fame (The series, although I’m going to go on a hunt for the movie) are what inspired my love of dance. The 80’s are almost retro and cool now. I should have kept the dancing up.

Say Anything just entertained me in my bid to raise the sandman. The final scene is the story of my life.. “Just wait for the ding”
Hire it out, You’ll understand.

Back to that soon.

Several months have passed, as it may be noted, since my last actual blog of stuff about stuff, other than stuff about nothing.
I’ll run down quickly on the things that I remember. More will come to mind as time passes. Some things I may touch on in more detail, rather than the quick one-liner’s here, on another day. Some things I don’t even know I’ve already written about, due to early dimentia. Forgive my forgetfulness ;)

I became single  (yeah, what a start), right on the eve of Haydens birthday bash. Surprisingly, that one didn’t cut into me at all. Strange even.

Mr Chris, Poo, Hayden and I all hired a 6 Berth Kea Camper for the bi-annual NZHondas Taupo Track day. Bar the motion sickness I managed to get, I had a blast the entire time. The track day ran without a hitch, and the annual scavenger hunt was a laugh a minute. Actually, several laughs a minute. All the laughs humanly possible in each minute, my sides hurt now just thinking about it.

I saw a show. Actually, I saw several shows of varying forms. Most were as stand in hand bag stuff. Others were just for the fun of it. All were a total blast with one or many good friends :)
Bjorn Again - The only ABBA approved tribute band.
Simple Plan - 12 year old central, to the point where leaving the concert venue proved almost impossible with all the 12y/o’s parents waiting outside. The music was awesome when you heard it over the screaming, too
Rove McMannus - I laughed so much that I didn’t want to laugh anymore. My bladder was full, and I was that person that makes an entire row of people stand up just so I can visit the bathroom.
Foo Fighters - I helped ‘Random Anna’ (thats the name I gave her) in her drunken drugged stupor. A stranger that decided the world was against her and there was no point even being alive. Silly girl.

A BIG BLACK MAC TRUCK decided to make mincemeat of 3 cars on the motorway, right behind me. Very narrowly missing myself and a lovely BMW. Can’t say I’m a fan of having any trucks in the same lane as me on the motorway now.

I was in a commercial, with Hayden. They dressed me like this..

Daredevil in the making...

I have yet to see the commercial (It’s for Air New Zealand and Rugby) but I don’t think you can even see us anyway

My flatmate turned 40, and he asked me to dress like this…

Those boots were made for more than walkin..

Because it was a geriatric party. Bar one other nurse, everyone else attended as old folks.
Here is some of them here..

Some of the gang. From the left..Mable (Geri), Harold (Aaron), Mildred (Esme), and George (Hayden) Oh, and Nurse Betty (me)

Oh, and Nurse Betty (me) ;)

My PC killed itself and I lost almost everything. Yeah, yeah, Back up. I know :P

My brother sister, and I, gave mum this little guy for Xmas

Trouble

His name is Mr Magoo.
I told mum she isn’t allowed to change his name.
More pics here

Christmas came and went. I spent it with Family in Te Puke. They all got spoilt by me

I stole my nieces, as part of their xmas present from me, for our annual trip to the zoo. I had 8 chaperones with me this time. Hehe ;)
I’m going to buy ‘friends of the zoo’ passes so I can go loads more, for free! I love the zoo. It’s always been one of my most favourite places to go.

Work has been pathetically crazy since the 2006 working year began, and I’ve had pressure beyond belief put on me < — gee, like you didn’t see that coming

I joined a Canon Photography club, mid January, at the insistence of a friend (now it turns out that that insistence was indirectly coming from several sources and people.. they all belong to the same club). They are teaching me how to use my lovely shiney new friend Little EOS (Canon 20D). I’m actually doing ok, I think.

Since joining there has been several ‘Great Kiwi Photography Expeditions’. A weekend in Taupo and Rotorua for Jousting and Falcon / Hawk Husbandry. A BBQ and Sunset night with the crew. A rooftop shoot from Gen-i, A Murawai sunset shoot
I helped with a wedding shoot last Saturday. 500 guests. A Laos Bride and a Samoan Groom. It was a fabulous combination of two such diverse cultures come together. I like some of my photos, and think the Bride will, too.

That is all for now :) Till next time, I wish you all a very wonderful 2006. Thank you for being so patient with me. Take care of yourselves.
x

    What can I say?
I know there isn’t much I can say, but I guess the persistence from myself, Hayden and many others to update the blog, finally paid off. :P
Thanks for taking the time to mention me. And you were a fantastic help to Nabil & Aimee’s wedding last Saturday. Thanks to you, you’ve created an extra 20 hours of photoshop work.
I guess it was just meant to be.. Joining POTN, and meeting me. ;) I’ve been priviledged to meet all your nice friends, and hopefully can come along for many more fun events. So, thanks to all Kirst’s friends for being so welcoming, and a huge thanks to you, Kirst, for letting me share part of your life.

Rose, Hiya Chickaroo. Miss ya darlin. Must almost be time for you to return back to Auz..It feels like you’ve been antipodean to me for a lifetime. Well, in my life, everything is a lifetime, over and over. The current lifetime is the one I want to stick with ;)
But I digress! How is Steve and the wee lady over there? And the UK cold? Are you coping?

the 80’s will NEVER be cool. EVER!

  18. iKirst says:

I seem to recall you shakin about at 80’s music at a function last year ;)

  19. Darkness says:

I claim no responsibility. I was under the influence. And besides, that still doesn’t mean the 80’s were cool.

  20. mrmeal (mrchips) says:
