Mamma Mia is great – go see it
Oh, I suppose I can’t really leave you at that, can I?!
I wont write a review on the show, I’m not qualified, but I can recommend you go see it. I went on the 5th
The show was written by Abbas two male stars, Benny and Bjorn.
Ma and I, after practically no deliberation, concluded we must go.
Our tickets were booked the day before the Wednesday Matinee show.
Cunning.
Having waiting so late in booking seats, the Civic was eager to fill the theatre, and our $50 tickets were less than half price ;o)
Theoretically, having cheaper seating would mean our view to the stage wouldn’t be that great. On the contrary. The booking agent had placed us smack dab in the middle of the theatre, and due to the nature of the steep seating plan in the Civic, we had no problem seeing anything.
The set and lighting is awesome.
The story is simple.
A Greek Island wedding is due to occur.
The Bride to be (Sophie) want’s her father to be there.
Her problems arise after finding her mothers (Donna) diary, she can only narrow down to three men, so all three are invited to her wedding. Each thinking Donna had invited them.
Donna runs into each of the men and is beside herself as to why they are even there..
Thus begins a journey or self growth, love, comedy, and every other emotion usually used to sell a show hehehe
The entire story is told around Abba songs.
I’m not going to tell you anymore because that’ll ruin it if you are going to see it
At the end of the show they turned the lights on the audience and blasted a few more old Abba favourites. We were encouraged to stand, sing and dance along with the cast. We really had no option but to join in with the rest of the crowd, if we stayed seated, we wouldnt have seen a thing anyway.
Some three odd hours later, Ma and I emerged from the theatre back into daylight, and headed back to our little corners of Auckland. Ever so slightly more enriched than when we went in.
