Whoops, I kinda forgot to post about my goings on didn’t I. Sorry about that…
Never Fear,
The updates here..
My flatmate is coming home from a three week vacation in Cancun, I think. I thought he was due home yesterday, but he didn’t show his face. I thought he might be here when I got home from work today, still no sign of him. Maybe he found a little mexican salsa to play with. Or even a spicy Taco ;o)
So, casting back to Sunday 13th.. here are the lastest adventures of me.
I was domesticated during the day, keeping the place clean and tidy. I was a pool shark by night! I never do well, but for once I used the Force! 9 games to 5. Sorry Ross, hehe. The music at the pool hall took me right back to when I first moved back to Auckland. I used to go clubbing at a place called Alfies (at 18, under age – naughty!). And funnily enough, Ross was the DJ there at the time. We were both grooving around the table and singing to our hearts content. My lawyer must have called about 10 times too. License stuff… never ending
I didn’t have anything planned Monday evening, as I don’t most nights, and was preparing for a nice relaxing evening in, doing crap all. The evening in happened, the relaxing and crap all bit didn’t.
Ross, aye ya lovely lad you, turned up unexpectedly with a new 10gb drive for my PC. I know this isn’t exactly huge compared to some of the super machines out there these days, but compared to what I had, it’s like a Rolls Royce for my PC. He ghosted everything on my 4.3gb (huge huh) onto my 8gb. That took a while. Then, me being the dumbass I am, suggested we put win2K on the new drive. With only 64mb of ram, this was almost suicidal to my PC. But it worked, rather lethargically. We watched a couple DVDs, listened to random music, and I cleaned the house for the rest of the night.
Oh, step back a bit, I forgot the day….(theres a reason behind it)…..
Our new PCs were installed and up and running at work on Monday – Thanks Si! – And I even got a new monitor to take home because I had bought three PCs via his suppliers (theres the reason
) ) – Thanks again Si!!! – I no longer have the choice of a monitor displaying only blue colours, one so fuzzy you can’t read anything, or one with such a poor refresh rate that you get a headache after staring at it for 5 minutes. Well, I do have the choice, but I think option 4 is far superior. Happy happy, joy joy.
I shouted Si subway for lunch, we went back to my place to eat and introduce the monitor to its new home (it’s settled in well).
I have concluded that Si has had a former life that surrounds my house, or has another him living in a parallel universe surrounding my house because he’s been here before. Right down to recognising everything, including the view of the neighbours red roof. Spooky
So, so far, I have a new keyboard from my bro (because I dropped mine and the space bar decided to go awol.. d’oh), a new 10gb drive from Ross, and a new Monitor from Si, I feel spesh
)
Right, onto Tuesday. The day wasn’t so busy, apart from my co workers never ending questions. A few things weren’t right on their new PCs (as you’d expect initially) and they were stressing that it would never be right. I got the odd one or two things going that I felt confident enough to fix. The rest would have to wait for Si’s return.
Tuesday night was spent with Si and a few other friends. We had the most wonderful dinner cooked for us. This was closely followed by Kevin’s (the master chef) samples of desserts and pastries. I can always guarantee a full belly when I visit, but in this instance I was about ready to explode. How do you say no to so many tasty sweet things that I can’t even spell? I got home at about midnight.. right before pumpkin hour again.
I should have gone straight to sleep, but I was eager to mess with the old but improved PC. Things weren’t working properly and I was determind to fix them myself. I mastered the art of swapping the 10gb and 4.3gb (for program purposes). I mastered the use of Ghost.exe and restored most of my programs to my C drive. I set a password on Outlook express at about 2am (I will return to this shortly)…. I crashed out at about 3am.
Wednesday was more PC stuff at work with Si. Everything is up and running sweetly now. Cheers tons Si!!! The afternoon was complete havoc, trying to get my documents from my lawyer for my restricted day license. They never showed up in the post so I had to go up to the court house (chauffer driven of course) to get my affidavit signed, and pick up papers for my boss to sign and get witnessed.
That evening I was picked up after work by Pete in his gutted car. He was dismantelling all the accessible mods for his new WRX. We met up with Nats and Paul, and set off to play pool. Pool looked packed so we drove around instead. I don’t think Nats has quite seen me when I go in complete goof mode, nor Pete and Paul.. but I had them laughing a lot. Pete stayed at my place that night. He went to sleep and I spent most of the wee small hours of the morning trying to remember my Outlook Password (told you I’d return to this). This is why you don’t fiddle around with important stuff at 2am. I was determined to figure it out, none of my geek mates knew how. It wasn’t really a huge issue seeing as how all my email addresses and messages were still in the ghost files on the other drive. I did get in though. I found a program on the net that find all passwords on your machine
) I’m so clever.
Thursday.. Court Day! (Oh, I sound like such a bad girl). My boss was sent on a mission by myself to get his affidavit for me signed. In a normal world that sounds easy, but just managing to track my boss down is a mission in itself. Mission completed 5 mintues before I had to leave for my criminal appearance (hehe, not really). Nats kindly took an hour off work and drove me there. Thanks sweetheart!
)
20 confusing minutes I emerged with a license to drive. Look out Auckland. The courts forgot to inform everyone that they had changed the scheduled court room. I could hear my name being called over the loud speaker, but had no clue which court room it was. I wandered about until I found the Duty Solicitor who pointed me in the right direction. I snuck in and let the Baliff know I was there. Apparently my stand in lawyer (my normal one was on another case) buggered off. Nice one. So, I represented myself.. hehe. There was no contest on the day license anyway, so it was easy.
Nats dropped me off home, I jumped in my car, and zipped about Auckland until I decided I had been away from work long enough and had better return. That night Jeremy came around to watch a DVD and eat KFC (I had a hankering). The DVD didn’t play in the machine. I was not impressed. We ended up watching an old vid. Once he left I set about retrieving all my email stuff. Restoring through the ghost system only worked for the address book. So, I was cunning, I unplugged the 8gb, plugged in the 4.3 and grabbed the messages that way. I think I’m starting to learn a thing or two about a thing or two huh
)
Right, I’ll leave you there for this update. The weekend almost needs a whole post on its own…..
That concludes this class, kiddies…
Stay tuned – I have homework to do, a whole ‘nother week will follow very soon
Must away with me, I have a date with the TV and some Chocolate self saucing pudding, and that needs my complete attention
